If your animal is missing, please go by the city pound (located behind HEB). This site is in no way a substitute for checking yourself. The contact number for the pound is 278-9147
***Many animals currently at the city pound. Please call to make arrangements to look for your pet!
*The policy of the city is to euthanize animals who are not claimed within 3 days. Many times animals are held longer.
Impoundment Fee Determined By the City Of Uvalde
Although the Humane Society has opened a business office at the city pound, we do not have access to impounded animals, nor do we have the ability to impound animals. This office is strictly for distributing spay/neuter vouchers. If you are in need of animal control services, please contact them directly at 278-9147.
The Humane Society rescues from the Uvalde City Pound. We can not guarantee the animal you surrender will be rescued, however by surrendering to the city, you have provided the animal with an opportunity it may have otherwise not had.
If you choose to adopt an animal from the city pound, the fee is determined by the city. The new owner has 30 days to have the animal spayed/neutered or face fines. Contact the Humane Society at 830-275-1744 for information on obtaining a voucher to help reduce the cost of having the animal fixed. Vouchers are distributed from our office located on Garden Street behind HEB Tuesday-Thursday from 10am - 2pm.
If you have lost or found a pet, contact 278-9147 and ask the dispatcher to have animal control contact you.
Adoptions/Claims are directly through the animal control department.
All fees/fines are determined by the city of Uvalde.

How can you Help?
Fix your pet! The most important thing any of us can do is spay/neuter our dogs and cats. Puppies, kittens and purebred dogs are euthanized every week in Uvalde. STOP THE CYCLE! Don't allow your pet to get pregnant or impregnate another animal. Call the Humane Society for a voucher to help reduce the cost of having your pet fixed. 275-1744 Vouchers are distributed every Tues, Wed, & Thurs at the HS office located behind HEB at the city pound from 10a-2p.
Adopt! Rescuing a pet from the City pound or Humane Society is a wonderful way to make a difference. It is also financially a GOOD DEAL! Adopt a dog from the Humane Society for $100 and you get current vaccinations and a FIXED dog who can not reproduce! The humane Society also completes a heartworm test, keeps animals on monthly heartworm prevention & flea/tick prevention while they live in a foster home. You are getting a ready to go family pet! Cat adoptions are reduced to only $60 through the HS and that includes spay/neuter, feline leukemia/aids test, flea/tick and prevention while they are cared for as foster pet.
I.D. Your Pet! Get a collar and have the rabies tag on your pet! Also, be on the lookout for Uvalde's new city ordinance which allows us to register our pets with the city-this is a great way to make sure lost pets are found! if your pet is stolen, lost or otherwise misplaced-having them licensed with the city proves they are your pet and helps ensure their safe return! ...and by the way...its cheaper if your pet is fixed!
Volunteer! The Humane Society rescues as many animals as possible from being euthanized, however, sadly many can not be saved because their simply is not a good, safe, clean place for them to go. The more foster families we have that are willing to temporarily care for dogs/cats, the more we can rescue. If you see a pet above that you can temporarily care for, please contact us for more information. We provide all medical expenses and food. 830-275-1744 or email The Humane Society
ARE YOU READY? Before adding a dog to your household, make sure you are ready! is your yard completely fenced? is there a place for your pet to have shelter when outside? If you plan to tie your dog up to a tree or other object, the Humane Society recommends you NOT get a dog. What kind of life does it really have if its chained up outside, by itself in the cold, rain and hot Texas Heat? Check out this website Dogs Deserve Better If you know of a dog living on a chain-offer to walk it and encourage the family to do the same. Always check for food and water! If you have the resources and can offer to build a fence-you could save a dogs life!
